Specialist Resource Provision (SRP): Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) - Welcome
Welcome to Wincheap's specialist resource provision for Speech, Language & Communication needs where children learn to...

Essential information about Wincheap SLCN SRP and how we support our children with speech, language and communication needs, and associated learning differences:
Wincheap Foundation Primary School is unique in its provision for up to 20 children, each of whom has an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) to support diagnosed speech, language and communication disorders. The children are taught within an inclusive, specialist setting, with the aim of supporting and developing communication skills and promoting participation and confidence in learning.
The children have access to our NHS Speech and Language therapy team who work closely with the teaching staff and parents/carers in the SLCN SRP to plan and implement target-based intervention, whilst supporting children to generalise these skills into their everyday interactions.
The children are valued as part of the whole school community and have carefully planned programmes of mainstream inclusion. Our approach is based on the premise that provision will always start with the consideration of the child’s needs and will remain child-centred. For all SLCN SRP children, there is an expectation that they will spend part of their week in their mainstream classroom. This will be planned as part of an individualised programme and reviewed and monitored at regular intervals by both mainstream and SLCN SRP staff. Being given the opportunities to engage with the whole school community supports every child to develop their:
- learning
- speech, language and communication skills
- positive peer relations
- self-confidence
- resilience
The SLCN SRP at Wincheap Foundation Primary School is committed to helping every child develop the communication skills they need to thrive. Through close collaboration with families, teachers, and specialists, the team creates a supportive environment where children feel confident, understood, and empowered to reach their full potential.
