Thailand Partnership
Since 2018, we have been fortunate enough to form a partnership with Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit Demonstration School in Bangkok, Thailand. Groups of 10 pupils, aged between 10-12, visit our school for 2 weeks, experiencing ‘Wincheap life’ within our UKS2 classes.
As well as being immersed into school life, children participate in after-school activities, both at school with their new-found Wincheap friends, as well as during home visits with families of pupils at our school. Through doing this, our Thai visitors have experienced many new and exciting opportunities, such as crafts, games, Christmas traditions, ice skating, bonfire night celebrations, Scout groups and sampling a range of different foods. In return, our children and their families are exposed to Thai culture and customs, with many having been taught some phrases by our Thai guests. Our Wincheap families are always amazed at the impeccable manners of their Thai guests and the children are excited to make new friends. They are proud of the new and, in some cases, lasting connections they make. In some cases, the children have even swapped email addresses to keep in contact from across the world!
The staff members from the Thai school that accompany their pupils also use this opportunity to further their own professional development by observing teaching and learning in lessons across the whole school. Following on from their observations, staff have adopted some of the methods used at our school within their own community. Not only do the children experience British culture, the children and staff offer an insight into their own culture through specialist Thai dance lessons, beautiful Thai craft activities for our children to take part in on Enrichment Day, and culminating in a traditional Thai dance performance to the whole school (and host families) at the end of their visit.
If you are interested in finding out more about our partnership, or would like to be considered as a host for future visits, please contact Miss Davis or Mrs Wallace via the school office.
We are proud of the lasting partnership we have formed with Prasarnmit Primary; their visit is truly a highlight of the school year for everyone.
