LISTENING

A virtual choir singing the same piece performed by staff and students from East Kent Schools Together, released as part of a Feel-Good Friday programme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lufKaeTJ3rQ

The amazing Peter Bence doing things to a piano you’d never have thought possible!

The inspirational young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, talking on The One Show about the importance of his parents’ influence on his musical journey.  This is a tribute for all you parents and carers who are supporting your children in their musical life!

Laura van der Heijden, a young cellist who, like Sheku above, won BBC Young Musician of the Year.  Here’s a short video of her performing in Germany.  Very excitingly, Laura will be sending a special message to all Sounding Out children in the next email.

Today, I am sharing a short video made by one of our King’s School students, Caspar, playing the flute.  Caspar is 16 and loves singing too.  What do you think this piece might be about?  Perhaps it might inspire you to draw a picture or write about it?

The Kings School trumpet teacher Natalie has a very musical family!  Every Thursday they have been performing for the neighbours as they clap for the NHS.  I think you’ll recognise this from Toy Story:

Some lovely trombones from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgjZGOnhVTs&list=PLufiufOFr1VFPPTFQy697l0RUQG8C_PI8&index=11

You can listen to lots of their recordings on their RPO At Home playlist.

ACTIVITIES

Our friends at the Langton Music Centre have been entertaining families in Canterbury live every morning at 09.00 with “Wake and Shake”.  Lucy leads us in sing-songs, quizzes and much more, so why not tune in at 09.00 (or later) with the whole family and join in?

Music makes us SMARTER!

Time and time again, research has shown that people who learn a musical instrument do better at school.  Don’t take my word for it – watch this!
