Stephen Carter

About Stephen:

Stephen has served as a Wincheap governor since 2022. He is a Partnership governor, engaged through living in Wincheap with his wife and children (all at Wincheap school) and loves working as Associate Vicar at the parish church of St Mary Bredin. Previous to ordained ministry in the Church of England he worked as a secondary RE school teacher and remembers the joys and challenges of classroom teaching. In his role as Chair of Finance and Premises committee Stephen is keen that the school finances consistently support the school’s strategic priorities, making positive and sustainable contributions to the learning, teaching and community life here at Wincheap.

 

Alison Cogger

About Alison:

Alison is a local authority appointed governor. Alison became a parent governor in 1997 when her children attended the school. Over the years, she has served in a variety of categories of governor and has been the Chair of Governors from 2004 to 2024. Alison is a retired university lecturer in education with substantial policy expertise and a strong dedication to supporting children's success. In her spare time, Alison likes spending time with her 5-year-old granddaughter and pursuing hobbies like gardening, cooking, travelling, and reading.

 
Mark Evans

About Mark:

Mark Evans is the Chairman of the Learning and Teaching Committee at Wincheap Primary school.

Mark’s previous roles included middle and senior leadership roles at Primary schools in Kent, before moving across to lecturing in Primary Education in Canterbury, where he held strategic roles within both Primary Education and the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education more generally. Prior to leaving, his final role was that of Year 3 lead, wherein he oversaw the final transition of student teachers into their first teaching roles.

During COVID, Mark set up an online photography community which has since grown into a learning/education platform. He now manages this full-time, working with hundreds of presenters from across the world and thousands of participants.

 

Nyree Scott

About Nyree:

Nyree works at Canterbury Christ Church University, with students doing the Primary Education Teaching course. Her area of specialism is computing, but she also has a working knowledge of all primary subjects. Nyree is familiar with the school, having worked in partnership with it over a number of years on behalf of the university. She enjoys working with staff and fellow governors to support the school’s development, ensuring all children have the chance to thrive. Outside of work, Nyree can be found running, cycling and swimming, although not all at the same time! She is also a keen baker.

 

Phil Wilson

About Phil:

Phil began working part-time as an IT Technician at Wincheap School in 2007, although he had been present at the school several years before that, running a lunchtime music club for pupils. Over the years, he has not only been involved in the IT Department at the school but also in the Creative & Performing Arts too.

His IT management background gives him insight into how technology can enhance teaching, streamline processes, and improve communication. He has a strong interest and experience in the performing arts, which he believes plays a vital role in building confidence, creativity, and teamwork among pupils.

Whilst completing his degree in Music Technology, Phil started his own recording studio and event production company, which is still going strong some 20+ years later. His wife is now also on board as a company director and his three children enjoy the odd festival, theatre show or studio session too!

 

Milly Clark-Wilson

About Milly:

Milly is a parent governor at Wincheap School, where her daughter is a pupil. She is a dedicated SEND teacher and leader at a local Canterbury school, with passion and drive for ensuring that every child’s individual needs are understood and met. She is particularly focused on creating inclusive opportunities for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities to thrive both academically and socially. With a strong interest in the arts and interior design, she offers creative approaches to learning and environments. She brings both professional insight and a parent’s perspective to her role, helping to shape a supportive, inclusive school community.

Julia Rogers

About Julia:

Julia Rogers is a parent governor who brings a strong background in strategic decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and managing large-scale communications and budgets to the governing body. She is Director of Communications and Engagement at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust, where she serves on the Executive Team and leads strategic communications for one of the largest NHS community trusts.

She holds a degree in psychology and qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Earlier in her career, Julia worked as a local journalist for more than a decade and as a drama teacher at the Deborah Capon School of Dance in Whitstable, teaching children aged four to 18. This experience deepened her appreciation for the role creativity plays in children’s confidence, wellbeing, and development.

Julia is passionate about inclusion, emotional wellbeing, and academic success. She is committed to being an approachable and effective voice for families within the school community.

 

Nicola Dawson

About Nicola:

After completing a degree in French at Southampton University and spending a year in the Champagne region, which was extremely enjoyable, she completed a PGCE and started work as a teacher in the London Borough of Bexley. Three years later she relocated to Canterbury and became a teacher in the Speech and Language Department at Wincheap Foundation Primary School in 1997, getting married shortly afterwards and having two children, both of whom attended the school too!  She soon became Assistant Head and then Deputy Head before being lucky enough to become Headteacher of this amazing school.
