Safeguarding
We are committed to maintaining and promoting safeguarding at Wincheap Foundation Primary School
At Wincheap Foundation Primary School our priority is that children have got to be safe and also feel safe!
The welfare and safety of all our children is the highest priority for all staff and governors and every effort is taken to ensure that our school is secure and safe, recruitment procedures are rigorous and policies and procedures are up to date and relevant.
If you are worried or have any concerns, please speak with one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL’s):
Mrs Dawson, Headteacher
Mrs Cole, Pastoral Manager
Mrs Kokle, Deputy Headteacher
Mr Sutcliffe, Assistant Headteacher
Mrs Hoare, SENCo & Assistant Headteacher
Mrs Whitlock, Office Manager
As part of the ethos of the school, we are committed to:
- Maintaining children’s welfare is our paramount concern
- Providing an environment in which children and young people feel safe, secure, valued and respected
- Using the curriculum to provide opportunities for increasing self-awareness, self-esteem, assertiveness and decision-making
- Working with parents to build an understanding of the school’s responsibility to ensure the welfare of all children
- Ensuring all staff are able to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse
- Monitoring children and young people who have been identified as “in need”
- Developing effective and supportive liaisons with other agencies
All staff undertake annual training (and receive regular updates) to ensure that they implement and understand all school policies and procedures linked to keeping children safe.
The Designated Safeguarding Leads at Wincheap Primary School are the Headteacher Mrs Dawson, the Deputy Head Mrs Kokle, the SENCo, Mrs Hoare, The Assistant Headteacher, Mr Sutcliffe and the Pastoral Manager, Mrs Cole. Staff and parents can talk to them about any welfare or child safety concerns.
If you have an urgent safeguarding concern, please contact the school to discuss this with Mrs Cole.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
You can also contact either, the NSPCC on 0800 800 5000 if you are concerned about the welfare of a child or The Front Door Integrated Service on 03000 41 11 11.
Further information can be found in our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and other associated policies on our policies page.

We are an Operation Encompass School
Operation Encompass helps children who experience domestic abuse. Its aim is to provide early intervention and get them immediate support.
How it works:
When we attend incidents of domestic violence or abuse that involve children, we’re required by law to notify the child’s school or other place of education. We do this before the start of the next school day.
We do this for children who:
- were directly involved with the incident
- may be affected but weren’t present at the time of the incident
- are connected to the household, even if they’re living elsewhere
The school's safeguarding lead will make sure the child gets the support they need.
Early Help and Preventative Services
Early Help and Preventative Services (EHPS) in Kent aims to target early help services for the most vulnerable children, young people and families with a focus on delivering better outcomes.
Children, young people and families should be able to access the right services at the right time in the right place. We aim to place them at the heart of everything we do, working in a more integrated way and avoiding, where possible, lack of coordination or wasteful duplication.
EHPS offer a wide range of support services to children, young people and families across different levels of need.
Please speak with Mrs Cole in school for further information.
Family Hubs
Parents, carers, children and young people can find advice, support and services to help throughout their family journey, from newborns to 19-year-olds, or up to 25-year olds with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
